StoryTrails Executive Producer David Olusoga Premiers New Documentary At LFF

October 21st 2022

TV historian, presenter and StoryTrails Executive Producer David Olusoga’s companion documentary film to StoryTrails The People’s Piazza, A History of Covent Garden premiered on Sunday  9th October at the Odeon Covent Garden as part of the BFI’s London Film Festival for free.

For over four centuries the Covent Garden Piazza has been a market, a meeting place, and a site of protest, performance and renewal. In this new documentary David Olusoga walks back in time to explore its tumultuous history, and with the help of a host of experts and eye-witnesses, conjures up the ghosts of the past.

The documentary was premiered at two fully booked showings, with overwhelming support of the film. Attendees also enjoyed a panel and Q&A with David Olusoga, Mary Crisp (Producer), Chris Durlacher (Director & Screenwriter), Simon McCallum (Archive Projects Curator), and hosted by James Bennett, Director of StoryFutures.

Developed in collaboration between StoryFutures Academy, the BBC and the BFI, and as part of StoryTrails commissioned by UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, the film uses rich visual and written archive and state-of-the-art virtual production techniques. The film will also be broadcast on BBC2 and released on BBC iPlayer this November.
