Our handy guide to installing the StoryTrails App
Step 1 – FINDING AND DOWNLOADING THE APP ONTO YOUR SMARTPHONE
Download Our App Here
Alternatively, go to your smartphone’s App Store
Search for “Story-Trails” (Note: make sure you put the hyphen in)
Click on ‘GET‘ or the blue cloud image to download and install the app
Step 2 – OPEN THE APP
The first thing you will see are title cards for the trails, but these can be skipped through. The app will stop at our Terms Of Use.
Please read these, and when you are happy click on the orange ‘Accept’ button at the bottom.
Please also read our terms and conditions and click ‘Accept’ when you are happy.
The next screen tells you that headphones are recommended
(Note: these are audio experiences best enjoyed with headphones so make sure you have compatible headphones for your phone. You can do the experience with your phone on speaker if you do not have headphones, though please note the sound quality will likely not be as good)
Click ‘Continue’.
The next screen gives you an option to allow or not allow your location services to be on.
It is recommended to click ‘Allow‘ while using the app, this will make your experience smoother.
The next screen tells you that the app requires access to your camera.
It is recommended that you click ‘Allow‘ to allow camera access, this is so you can take photos while doing the trails.
If you do not want to app to access your photos and do not want to take photos during the experience, you can click don’t allow.
Step 3 – CHOOSE WHICH TRAIL EXPERIENCE YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO
There are three on-site experiences you can do in each location:
1) A Moment Across Time (A one-stop national experience) – Seen at top of screen
2) Virtual Cinema (A one-stop experience) – Seen on the bottom right of the screen
3) Walking Your Town Specific Trail (A longer 5-7 stop walking trail experience) – Seen on the bottom left of the screen
These, and all of the other location experiences, can also be done remotely (ie from anywhere!)
If you are NOT in the town or city of the trails, then go to Step 4 and choose the VIEW REMOTELY option.
TO WALK A TRAIL OR NOT WALK A TRAIL…
If you are in the town, in the vicinity of the library and want to do a mobile AR trail experience but DO NOT want to go on a walk to do it:
Choose: A Moment Across Time or Virtual Cinema. These can be done outside the library area of the event and each take around 5-10 minutes to do.
If you are in the town, in the vicinity of the library and want to do a mobile AR trail experience and DO want to do the walking trail experience:
Choose the town specific trail:
Omagh – Return Ticket to Omagh
Dumfries – Queens of The South
Dundee – Against All Odds
Blackpool – All aboard the Queercoaster
Bradford – The Godfather of Film
Sheffield – Ethel the Green Queen OR Crafty Grace
Lincoln – An Impish Tale
Wolverhampton – Sale of the Century
Swansea – What’s The Scoop?
Newport – Meet The Freckletons
Bristol – The Secret Behind Sweetmart
Swindon – Snapping Swindon with the Hoopers
Slough – From Slough to Space
Lambeth – Winnie’s Honky Tonk Walk

Step 4 – CHOOSING ”VIEW REMOTELY” OR WALK TRAIL OPTIONS
When you select an experience – the app will ask you to download the experience content. Click ‘DOWNLOAD’.
The app will ask you if you’d like a tutorial.
The app will then ask you whether you want to “walk trail” (on location), or whether you want to ”view remotely” (at home/not at the library).
